What Enables Cities to be Healthier?

We believe that a City brimming with Civic Assets, where investment and maintenance of Civic Infrastructure is a priority – that city could be described as Healthier. It is a City where every individual has access to attainable housing, green spaces and where most vulnerable members of our society are treated with respect and dignity.

What Is Ombrello Solutions Key Proposal?

Attract private & institutional capital to invest into civic infrastructure at market returns.

Shift ownership of civic assets into Community Endowment Funds.

Enable corporate real estate developers to directly benefit from civic infrastructure in return for a portion of the generated real estate value.

By Succeeding We Accomplish

  • Private and institutional capital flowing, at scale, towards addressing key societal and environmental crisis of our cities.
  • Public funding being liberated to maintain existing urban public infrastructure and to invest into new attainable housing.
  • Community ownership and governance becoming a viable alternative.

How Are We Getting There?

1

Step 1

Building two prototype systemic investment instruments that enable $350,000,000 in total capital to be deployed towards acquiring and ecologically restoring a portfolio of eleven nature and biodiversity assets; and acquiring 400 permanent homes for homeless individuals and families who are on the street because of evictions.

2

Step 2

Scaling both instruments to include a larger portfolio of civic assets in cities across Canada and a higher number of permanent homes for homeless individuals across urban centres.

3

Step 3

Structuring new types of systemic investing instruments that build Healthier Cities and address crises such as lack of attainable housing, food insecurity, need for climate retrofits across every real estate asset class, soil regeneration.
